Research and Development

Product Development

Our development engineers have many years of experience in position measurement, embedded microcontrollers DSP, FPGA, laser optics, microwave radar, precision analogue electronics, advanced software control algorithm and image processing design.

World Class R&D

We have worked closely with research centres of excellence and have commissioned projects and collaborated on PhD level research at leading academic institutions such as:

  • University of Oxford
  • University of Nottingham
  • University College London (UCL)

Many of our current senior management and development personnel started out with the company on such PhD collaborative projects. This experience has enabled us to produce optimum solutions for many applications. We have access to test sites which enable us to carry out real world testing on new product developments prior to bringing them to market. This is essential to ensuring our products are robust in the operating environments they are subjected to.

We listen to our customers

At Guidance Marine, we pride ourselves on producing world class products that our customers really want. Our goal is to provide our customers with the very latest technologies and capabilities.

The R&D teams in Guidance Marine take ideas through the conceptual stage, through development and testing to manufacturing and finally a commercial product. At Guidance Marine we're driven by our customers' requirements. Our industry leading products and engineering expertise are focused on ensuring your application succeeds.

Our Design and Operating Principles:

  • To provide the most accurate, reliable and easy to implement and operate sensors available
  • Push ourselves to continually improve performance driven by the constantly evolving requirements of our customers

Software Development

A user-centred design approach

"At Guidance Marine we are firm believers that a Human Factors approach, listening to the customer, understanding the use, is vital to bringing the end user and the technology forward together"

Dave Sanderson - Head of Engineering

At Guidance Marine we're driven by our customers' requirements.

Our Software engineering philosophy goes beyond sitting behind a desk - Guidance Marine is proactive in engaging with customers and we work closely with the day-to-day operators of our products. Their in-field experience and the changing conditions of the operational landscape all help shape our software design. We understand the importance of balancing the software user interface with the hardware it is designed to control.

Partnership Opportunities

Guidance Marine has built a reputation for successful collaborations with a number of universities and research establishments over many years:

  • University of Oxford
  • University of Nottingham
  • Loughborough University
  • University College London
  • DMU Design Centre

Our culture of innovation ensures we are often interacting with third party organisations to further explore the possibilities within the markets we serve. Our aim is to use the latest techniques and technologies to develop the smartest commercial products, fit for purpose. Never indulging for technology's sake. Whilst laser, microwave and navigation form the core of our expertise, we are also working on other sensing technologies for totally new applications.

If an organisation shares a strong collaborative ethos towards commercial product development in the navigation, measurement and positioning arena, Guidance Marine would like to hear from you.
